My name is Hailey and I am from the United States. I am a recent graduate from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls with a Bachelors Degree in Community Planning. Currently, I am a 2017 Spring Volunteer at Our Chalet and come the end of May, I will be moving to Sangam to be a Long Term Monsoon Season Volunteer.
I have been active in Girl Scouts since the age of six but was unaware of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) or World Centres until I studied abroad in Germany for my last semester of University. I knew that I wasn’t ready to go home after graduation, which thus brought me to Our Chalet!
Our Chalet has provided me with leadership skills that I never thought I had. We receive groups of all ages and therefore it is our job to lead these groups out on program. I have lead groups of elementary students, to teens, and to my oldest group member being 90 years old. I had a fear of leading those older than me because I thought they wouldn’t think I was experienced enough. I quickly got over this fear at the Chalet as I saw participants confine in me to lead them because I was the expert.
I decided to travel to Sangam after Our Chalet in order to expand my leadership skills, to experience a new culture, to gain a new perspective career wise, and to continue to spread the world of Guiding. I have gained so much just within my first few months of working with WAGGGS that it has already made a lifelong impressions.
